I got this book off of half.com. I would recommend this book for all the Special Ed Schools to have. I am sending out letters hoping to talk to Schools in are County about getting more Athletes. Are County has mostly older Athletes. This is one book I would show them.Special Olympics Indiana Tippecanoe County.

This book is one of the most enjoying books I have had the priviledge of reading. I am saying this as a parent whose son Chad Kocabinski is one of the featured athletes. He is the young man talked about in the equestrian events section.I and my wife will have this book forever as a living memorial to our son who passed away from cancer on the 23rd of December 2000. The way the author did her interviews and the way the book has been written and it's content is something that makes us to be very proud. We had it on display at the funeral home as a tribute to not only him, but to Special Olympics as a whole.As a matter of fact, we would like to get 8 more copies of this book to place in each one of the schools in our community in his memory.

I am a Special Olympian and have been for 17 years. This book is totally amazing. I recommend this book to anyone with a mental or physical challenge. The families with a challenged person in their family will totally be in awe after they read this book. I am also a global messenger for Special Olympics. She provides counseling, consultation, and educational seminars to family caregivers, and training and presentations to organizations. Her first book, The Caring Spirit Approach to Eldercare: A Training Guide for Professionals and Families, won two national book awards in 2005. I can glean some information from this book, but it focuses primarily on care of an elder. My husband is only 45 and not incapacitated, so I was looking for general support. I know my situation is rare and I have not found any sort of support group so I guess thinking this book might help was unrealistic, but I did try. Some of the ideas make sense, but if you are in a situation where you don't have an individual with dimentia who needs to be under constant nursing care this really doesn't offer too many ideas. Again, a few that apply across the board, but not much. I was disappointed because I was hoping for more.

The Mindful Caregiver is a thoughtful book and an enjoyable read written from the heart based on the author’s years of experience as a geriatric social worker and as a caregiver for her mother with Alzheimer's disease. The book provides practical approaches to caregiving and presents the often painful challenges in an easy to read format using real cases to illustrate and support the points. Kriseman explores coping strategies for the caregiver, how to advocate for the elder, navigate the health care system, and utilize support services. Throughout the book she emphasizes that taking care of oneself is essential for providing the best care for the care recipient and for sustaining that care over months to many years. As a practicing physician, I believe the book, while geared to caregivers of elders with terminal illnesses, provides many valuable points that can be applied to everyday life, and to caregiving for the chronically ill of all ages.

I wrote a similar review on the second book but I purchased, but I'm pretty disappointed with this and the second volume of this series. I wish I'd never heard that there were sequels in the first place, the art is so much more terrible than the first volume's art and it's tainted my view of the whole story. I would have understood a change in style, but it just all looks so /bad/ compared to the first volume--I think the biggest reason for that being the CGI-rendered backgrounds (and some of them /very lazily rendered ones/) that the characters are just cut and pasted into and jar me on every single page. They don't even have any of the variance in environment that the first had, most of the third volume takes place in the same bland CGI castle in the sky.The writing feels different too. I always have a dislike for sequels that retcon things, and once the story gets to the end all the plot points get wrapped up really quickly and without any emotional depth. The resolution to Prince Ingle's plot in particular was one panel and comes out of NOWHERE. So, basically, very disappointed. Wish I'd just bought the first book and saved my money.

The mashups fly fast and furious as things head towards the climax of the storyline. It FEELS like most of the book is devoted to the final battle, although on checking back I see only about a third of it is. The core theme of the series is driven home quite well: personal power corrupts, but the power of friendship does not corrupt and will always win in the end. Strongly recommended.

Always loved Rod Epsinosa's work. I was so excited to know he completed the story of the "Courageous Princess".

BEAUTIFUL STORY

The story of this entire series is cute and what I like most is there's no romance subplot even though it's teased upon. The main character is fun and one I would like my nieces to read about. In fact, my niece loves the first two books and I'll be giving her the third for her birthday. ^_^

This graphic novel book series is amazing. My kids have read & reread it several times. The plucky heroine in it doesn't need any saving & is a great role model for little feminists. There are 3 books in the series - would recommend them all. (Plus, super cool that they are written/illustrated by a Filipino artist!) ❤️

Was there anything new? Actually, as someone who's been bumming about in the woods for over a quarter century, Nestor brings up a few ideas to think about.Sadly, it's just about gear, there is no technique.But it is a nice, simple, well presented intro piece, and the case studies are nicely selected, particularly the SEALS who bit off more vacation than they could manage. I would love to see this, Bushcraft Tips & Tools, Vehicle Survival Kit You Can Live With, and Bug Out Gear for Travelers brought together into a single print volume, it would go nicely with Nestor's other books.

If you are a beginner or only have some survival experience then this is the book for you. I was an eagle scout and I was taught how to survival for short periods of time. However over the years I have forgotten a lot I had learned, plus there are now many new items out there that wasn't around when I was younger. This is an excellent book to get up to date on what's out there,plus what to use for each type of outdoor trip. I highly recommend this book and it should be something you can have before you go on any outdoor activities. I GIVE IT A FIVE STAR RATING.

An excellent, CONCISE approach to survival skills while hiking. Outdoor "common sense" is actually not common, but the result of thoughtful consideration of what might go wrong and how you will respond. This book is essential reading for all hikers, but especially solo hikers and those just getting started in this wonderful avocation.

I realized I had forgotten much that I used to know when I served in Search And Rescue years ago. There were excellent suggestions on gear that I wish I had known then. Nowadays I will use the ideas in the book for the day trips I now typically take - and I have gotten careless about my gear for those trips

As an avid hiker this book is excellent. Every hiker should read this book, make a list, and go shopping. Tony makes it easy. I wish I had his book 30 Years ago when I first started hiking. I had to learn by trial and error how to layer clothing, expect the unexpected, and plan for everything. And that means snow if hiking the Rocky Mrs in the summer. Because those mountains always have snow at the top.

As a seasoned prepper and former military I can state that this book makes total sense, it's great intro for beginners and that's what I used it for to teach my family who are altogether into the prepping mindset, also have good tips for the more serious prepper and I love how it emphasizes about what you think you need is what you have to carry and how your level of fitness will affect your ability to carry.

As usual, I feel beneath those who classified this as classic. Once again I feel classic means no spirit, no passion, just a bunch of words to help the reader feel the pain of the author, or characters. Ok, I didn't finish but I felt 50% of the book was more than enough time for me to care about something.First, I don't believe in the main character who calls herself a New Yorker yet says very little. Not in my experience. And she says she's in love with the other woman but has never asked that woman anything. She knows nothing about the OBJECT of her love.Second, I don't love the other woman, nor respect her. She give nothing of herself.And third, What is up with the caveman? Why does the silent NYer spend any time with this brute?Salt is rubbed into the readers eyes as they try to read this and feel any identification with the author.Sorry. There are billions of good books out there. I will go read one of them.

This edition by Norton republishing Patricia Highsmith's second novel, The Price of Salt, or Carol as later titled by the author, is worth its higher price than the other Kindle editions available that are fraught with typos and amateurish typesetting. I imagine most who are checking out reviews here have either already seen the movie Carol (based on the book) or plan to see the movie yet wish to read the book first. I had already read an earlier edition of The Price of Salt prior to seeing the movie recently. I'm glad I've invested in this Norton edition as it includes interesting and informative commentary from Highsmith shedding light into the backstory of her writing the novel mid-20th century in the first place.For me, reading the book and experiencing the movie are a complete package. Like two persons who belong together, words well written and images well framed can be better appreciated than partaking of one without the other.In terms of the novel, Highsmith's prose does a wonderful job of developing its characters, particularly the character Therese who is the story's protagonist. The novel is clearly written from Therese's point of view. It is a coming-of-age story about Therese and her experiences that lead her to falling in love with an older woman, Carol, who is in the midst of getting a divorce. Carol is torn between her love for her daughter, named Rindy, and her attraction and growing romantic love for Therese that puts Carol's relationship with her young daughter at risk. It is a dark story at times fraught with immense tensions and conflicts acutely felt but forcibly suppressed by certain characters as it takes place within the early 1950s. Such is a a time when same-sex attraction was considered both pathological and criminal if acted upon, and the novel's dialogue and narrative must be seen within this repressed societal context of the day. The novel is quite revolutionary for its time, carrying a somewhat ambiguous though positive ending for the two women in love rather than the typical tragic one, and the story continues to be relevant even today. The movie, as brilliantly directed and supurbly acted by all of its cast, and with its own rich historically accurate reproduction and visualization, has a few changes to the original plot that for me, work. I would say if you read the novel before seeing the movie, you will experience the movie more as an insider who recognizes these changes as something complimentary to Highsmith's story. By watching the movie, you can appreciate having greater insight into Carol's part within the story.All said, the novel Carol is a worthy read for anyone who wants to read a complex yet ultimately uplifting love story that happens to be between two women who do not fit into the stereotypes for lesbian relationships of any period.

If you're like me, you know Patricia Highsmith from her Ripley crime novels. But Highsmith, writing under a pseudonym, also wrote this groundbreaking 1950s study of one woman’s sexual awakening. The release of the Hollywood adaptation, under the title “Carol,” has brought this often overlooked novel the attention it deserves. Even 60 years after its initial publication, “The Price of Salt” remains as relevant, powerful and compulsively readable as ever.The story centers around Therese, a 19-year-old aspiring set designer who suffers from a severe disconnect with the world around her and from her own identity. On the surface, she seems happy: She has a devoted boyfriend, Richard, and just got a temporary job at a department store to make some extra cash. But something’s missing from Therese’s life – something she herself can’t exactly define. (There’s a nice bit about the various ways to pronounce Therese’s name that sums up her confusion: “She was used to a dozen variations, and sometimes she herself pronounced it differently.”)Enter Carol, a mid-30-something upper-class housewife and mother who comes across as glamorous, beautifully unattainable, and moody. After they meet in the department store where Therese works, the two feel a “sudden release, that leap of response in both of them, as if their bodies were of some material which put together inevitably created desire.”As the first part of “The Price of Salt” traces Therese and Carol’s “will they or won’t they?” relationship and the second sends them on the lam, so to speak, on a cross-country road-trip, Highsmith’s background in crime fiction serves her well. For instance, the age difference between the main characters is mentioned a number of times. (Imagine if this novel were about a heterosexual relationship between a man in his mid-30s and a 19-year-old girl.) The novel also explores Highsmith’s preoccupation with identity and, in this case, love's apparent contradiction: even as Therese finds her true self, she loses her identity in Carol's or, as Therese reflects, "she felt like an actor, remembered only now and then her identity with a sense of surprise, as if she had been playing in these last few days the part of someone else, someone fabulously and excessively lucky" in love.In the end, this shouldn't be categorized as a lesbian love story. It's a beautifully realized and meditative novel of one young woman finding the courage to "plunge headlong" into life and love. That's something anyone can relate to.
