This was great story. Heartbreaking, joyous, and thrilling all in one. Characters are relatable and you can feel for each of them. Loved this story and look forward to reading more from these authors.

I love both of these authors so when I found out they were writing together, well needless to say I was excited! Merritt is a spirited independent FMC who doesn't let anyone push her around. She lived 15 years thinking her father abandoned her and forced her to leave the three boys she loved. Then her father does and she must go home to deal with his affairs and to face the three men she left years ago. A suspense filled love story full of twists and revelations, a definite MUST read!

They always say your significant other is your best friend. But how do you handle it when you have 3? Merritt thinks that after 15 years of no contact with her best friends from childhood will be easy to walk away from. Until she faces them again. Tatum, Denver and Krew have plans and minds of their own. And the clash of these 4 is worth it. Well done contemporary RH that has just the right balance of emotion and one amazing storyline

I didn’t realize this was a book in an anthology, which I don’t usually read but I’m glad I did. The characters are well written. The drama and story line were on point in this story. I’m one for liking longer books but this was an enjoyable quick read! I will recommend this! Love Cora’s writing style!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was straight to the point and captivating. I loved that there were no filler spots and that everything for and made sense. I loved all the characters and how even after time apart, they still got together.

This was a fast great read. Awesome characters and a great storyline. Makes a great afternoon read to enjoy and relax with. Like I said it's just GREAT.

This is a great feel good story. Some suspense and lots of feels make for a great read I recommend to everyone.

I swear everything that our lovely CJ writes is a complete hit. Please just read this book. I know I always say that, but this one is SO dang good. I didn’t want it to end, like ever. Mer and Remy, ugh I love them both so much! I’m in love with the name Snaps too. And the guys, jfc. No words. I can’t even pick a favorite. Gimme ‘em all. This flows so good and sucks you in, totally feels like a movie playing out in your head. Way more than 5 stars.

#15,508 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

That rating might be a little low. It's more for the series as a whole than this particular installment and more to balance out the 3 star ratings I gave to the others. The whole thing probably should have gotten 2.5 stars, but that's not a thing, so here we are. These books are perfectly fine. They move reasonably fast and the writing is serviceable. They suffer from thinly-drawn characters, though. Of the heroic characters, I always had trouble remembering who was who out of Ian, Merrill, and Eli, and Tia, Chelsea, and Nell. Not to mention Sherell, Penny, and Rita. There were a ton of them, and they generally got one trait (Merrill was missing a leg, Tia was gay) to latch on to.The biggest problem, and it's laid bare here as much of the book's length is devoted to it, is the central romance. I found myself comparing it to Katniss and Peeta. I'm not a fan of them either, but the big difference was that I knew Peeta, and I watched their relationship grow from ground zero. Here, the series starts with Zoey and Lee together (paired by the totalitarian compound where both grew up). There's no wrinkle there, no hiccup. Lee wasn't paired with someone else, to give their relationship an element of rebellion. It was just magically there. And they're deeply in love, I guess, despite Zoey pretty much forgetting about him for vast swathes of the series (and if memory serves, the entire 2nd book). Now I'm expected to be incredibly invested in this One True Love. Sorry, book. Not happening. The verdict? If you're a huge fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, maybe give it a shot? Otherwise, don't worry about it.

I felt like I wasn’t going to like it because it was so slow moving in the beginning. This struck me as weird since the ending of the second book leaves you with such a great cliffhanger. There is action at the beginning of the book, but I wasn’t really sucked into the story line until about half way through. I would also say that there were moments of frustration with the lead character because she has a bit of a martyr complex. BUT, the second half of the book is so good, that I ended up loving it! I think that certain parts were a bit predictable, while others were a shock to me..so there was a good balance there. My favorite part was the way the author wrapped everything up. Mainly because I like it when a writer has enough guts to not end the book on a happy note. Especially when it’s a dystopian novel…bad things gonna happen man! Not to say that I wasn’t sad that everyone didn’t get what they wanted in the end… It’s just more realistic. Overall, I very much liked the final book for this trilogy.I would recommend it for people who like dystopian novels or movies. I would also recommend it to people who like a strong female lead.

This was a good trilogy right up to the moment when Zoey's parentage is revealed. Ever since the first book I'd suspected the author was leaning in that direction but I hoped he wouldn't do it, wouldn't go for the obvious, soap-opera-sappiness, but he did. It makes the rest of the story basically useless. Probably planned as a 'gotcha' moment, the reveal of Zoey's parentage merely devolved the story into a facsimile of a thousand more just like it. Too bad. I was really hoping my intuition was wrong, and that the author wouldn't go for the obvious, plot-by-numbers formula, but he did. Might as well put a bow on it and sell it to ABC as an after-school-special (remember those?). Now I have to slog through the rest of the story and reach the ending I already know will happen. We need more authors like Phillip Pullman (The Golden Compass) and Patrick Rothfuss (The Name of the Wind). I'm glad this trilogy was on sale.

This author can write well but with each of these books the characters go through the exact same trials and tribulations with the the only difference being the bad people as the book before. I only gave this book three stars because of this fact - there was nothing new added to the story. Even Zoey heroically going it alone so others wouldn't be hurt because of her is same-o same-o. One thing I found humorous in this book is the author's clear lack of knowledge about how a woman's body works when she has given birth - just as a side note; the female body has to have the appropriate hormones in play within the body, typically from pregnancy and childbirth, to actually be able to produce human breast milk. Breastmilk does not spontaneously form just because you are holding a baby, even if that baby is biologically your own.

Maybe I shouldn't read dystopian tales anymore. Not that they are all alike and the Dominion Trilogy was really good. But the one thing the same in all the ones I have read is the death toll. It's constant and I find it bleak. And while I really enjoyed these books, this one lost a star or two because they (SPOILER ALERT) abandoned the dog. Unforgivable. You expect the deaths of the characters you've come to care for but I can't take it when the victim is an animal. Come on all you authors out there, can't you just save the animals? Although Seamus doesn't die, even worse, they abandon him because "he was wild when Ian found him". The poor thing is grieving for his master so they just leave him at the grave and assume since he was wild before he'll have no problem surviving without him. And they never look back or mention the poor dog again. Really?? Nope, ruined the end of the whole thing for me. That and Zoey is just a little too slick and lucky. Talk about having nine lives - I guess all of the animal luck went to her. So good read with some flaws.

Review

A 2018 Southwest Book of the YearExploring the Superstitions: Trails and Tales of the Southwest's Mystery Mountains by John AnnerinoNonfiction"It's safe to say that Annerino is enamored with the Superstition Mountains, which he finds "treacherous, hauntingly beautiful and deceptively enchanting." Rising slightly over 5,000 feet, the Superstitions are not imposing or majestic by most standards but, when one considers the 654 people who perished in these "Killer Mountains," they may be the darkest and most violent. Intimately familiar with the region, Annerino features only trails that he traversed. In addition to his stunning photography, he includes directions, topographical maps, field notes, and trip reports. To assist readers with planning and preparation, emergency contact information (including Final County Search and Rescue) is listed as well as links to trail maps, lodging, local sights and, for prospectors still searching for the Lost Dutchman's Gold, treasure maps along with a government site noting required permits and regulations. Readers will also find an account of the Mountains' colorful and tragic history, descriptions of native flora and fauna, and, lest we forget, an appendix of those who met their end there. In all, it is a complex guide certain to appeal to beginning and seasoned outdoorsman alike." -- Skyhorse --Vicki Ann Duraine2018 Southwest Books of the Year"Now celebrating its 42nd year of guiding readers to the finest in southwestern literature, Southwest Books of the Year continues to stand alone as the nation's only ongoing inventory of everything that is current and contemporary in the literature of our region."             "Annerino is an excellent photographer and fine writer with a special affinity for the American Southwest and Old Mexico."--DALLAS MORNING NEWSNewest Masterpiece. "I've been reading John Annerino's newest masterpiece: Exploring the Superstitions. It is a wonderfully fresh look at an old, tired subject, but John makes it come alive and gives folks something exciting to read at every turn of the road or dip in the trail. John's research is compelling. Wow! I hope it sells a truckload of books!!" ~Bill Broyles, author of Our Sonoran DesertOde to the Superstitions. "Living in the shadow of the infamous Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix, I've heard many tales of lost gold and lives lost, but until I read John Annerino's arresting new book, 'Exploring The Superstitions~Trails and Tales of the Southwest's Mystery Mountains', I didn't have a clue how much I'd missed. Annerino, a gifted writer-photographer and veteran Southwest adventurer, lovingly reveals it's storied history from both Native American, Mexican miner and frontier settler POV's, describes it's legacy as the most dangerous mountain range in the world (650+ victims), while teasing us with treasure maps and genuine stories of real gold discovered within the Superstitions. And then he caps it off with detailed trail hikes, climbing routes, water sources, and essential information to keep you from adding your name to the Superstition death list. Far more than a trail guide, this is a book to inform and inspire you to follow in the Dutchman's footsteps. After all, someone has to find the Cave of the Gold Bars, don't they? (Note, I'm not paid for this review, it's simply my thank you for John Annerino's lifetime contribution to Southwestern lore)."--Review by Kerrick JamesA 2018 Southwest Book of the Year

Exploring the Superstitions ("Exploring") is a special book. It crosses disciplines and weaves together many dimensions of this confounding part of central Arizona. It moves through historical insights and provides solid trail suggestions for hikers. I liked that it strayed from the genre and explained the often overlooked history of indigenous peoples here. The author treats the subject matter with the sensitivity for which he is known and goes beyond stereotypes. The book is also animated by gifted photography. And while the research here distinguishes it from other books on the shelf, it also is a fine guide for exploring the rough terrain of this area.Certainly if you want to find your way beyond Weavers Needle or hike east from Charlebois Springs, this is the book for you. If, instead, you seek an up-to-date take on the history of Peralta or the back-stories of early explorers and those who never returned, Exploring the Superstitions won’t disappoint. It breaks new ground for books of this locale and brings new info--even for Arizona history buffs. A comprehensive publication, this book was worth the wait. Five stars!

a "salad bar" of a book. that is to say, it is travelogue, history, wildlife descriptions (flora & fauna), and some good recommendations on some trails to traverse. too often books on southwestern travel start with the colonial period, the Spanish and gringo invasions. this book offers a substantial amount of history of the indigenous cultures that were the original human occupants. annerino is a good author to consult for travel in the southwest, especially his home state of Arizona. and the superstitions have such an allure with all the deaths and attempts to find the lost Dutchman mine, if indeed it ever xisted? now we have a new treasure to pursue, some undestroyed (maybe?) pieces of artwork done by Arizona painter ted degrazia…...

Lots of facts and history but considering this person calls himself a photographer there are very few photographs in there. If you are going to do put that much detail into trails post a photo of the trail/scenary.

Excellent book.

Great book

John Annerino has done it again! In "Exploring the Superstitions: Trails and Tales of the Southwest’s Mystery Mountains," he once again gives us all the advice and information one might expect from an excellent trail guide, and so much more. Annerino complements all the standard fare with anecdotes from his own substantial experience, and well as obviously exhaustive research in the areas of geology, anthropology, history, botany, biology and so much more. But if all this makes the book sound like an unwieldy tome, it is not. The author has expertly woven the information together in a highly readable way – like the “zarape” mentioned on p. 60, it will comfortably cover the reader/adventurer’s needs and satisfy his or her thirst for knowledge (but don’t forget to bring your own water!) with the added bonus of being decorated with Annerino’s always-stunning photography.

The Superstition Mountains are among the most legendary and well-known places in Arizona. Whether or not the fabled Lost Dutchman Gold Mine actually exists in this vast roadless wilderness, there is treasure in the form of natural beauty strewn everywhere you look, especially in the spring wildflower season. My family has been exploring this amazing place on foot and horseback since my grandfather was a young man.John Annerino's new book, which I have just read, is by far the best guide I've seen to this jewel of the desert. Hikers and horseback riders will find detailed directions in this book for the surprisingly numerous trails that crisscross this great wilderness, including critically important information about where to look for water. There's also plenty of information about the local flora and fauna, the Native peoples of the area, and the history of the white man's obsessive, risky search for mythical hidden treasure in these mountains from the colonial era of New Spain until the present day. I was not aware that there have been so many discoveries in recent decades of old diggings and artifacts that have raised hopes for someday locating the Dutchman's mine, but Annerino includes numerous up-to-date details. The book is well written and well illustrated; photojournalist Annerino takes both the "photo" and "journalist" aspects of his craft seriously. There's a good guide to maps, gear, and local resources like government agencies and lodging. One interesting, though macabre, section enumerates the stories of the many explorers who have met their deaths in the Superstitions, along the lines of the classic "Death in the Grand Canyon".If you are a resident of Arizona, or a temporary visitor, and you enjoy being immersed in the history of the Wild West or the wonders of nature, you will find this book to your liking. Highly recommended.

I have never been to the Southwest, but John Annerino's books bring this special, sacred and mysterious place to life. His historical research of facts, stories and photographs illuminate the majesty and splendor of this unique land. Trails and Tales of the Southwest's Mystery Mountains; Exploring the Superstitions, continues Annerino's series of highly personal, informative and poignant books illustrated with his own photographs that simmer with golden light and historical images that tell the story of the land and the people who have lived and explored this amazing place.
