Unfortunately, it's about of random people's anecdotes about HR mixed with a bunch of other artists testimonials about why they love HR. 269 pages of single paragraphs mixed up in no real coherent way. There really is no insight into his life or any real personal accounts of anything. It's just a bunch of people explaining why they like HR. I was hoping for an actual book about HR. Two stars for the photo content.
If you are familiar with or want to learn a bit about Punk icons 'Bad Brains' and their tumultuous career and various struggles, then this book serves up accounts from various people involved with them on various levels in such a way that the stories cronicle the bands' history from before they started playing to present time. It's up to you to decide when it was over or if it has a decent conclusion. I was lucky enough to see the band live back in the early years and was blown away. It still stands as one of the most powerful shows I've ever seen, and this is a book about them and that energy.
I've been waiting my whole life to read a book on H.R. Good stuff man! Thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and now looking forward to the documentary!
WOW! Love Bad Brains and Love H.R. this book is a treasure.
If you are a fan of the Bad Brains and want to know more about HR from the people who have spent the most time with him, read this.
Grrreetings! Being blessed with the chance of finding Bad Brains and H.R`s music in my life, i feel the responsibility of spread the word and encourage people to learn and listen to HR and BB story and hopefully be changed by them. Thanks and Praises to ALL.
This open my eyes to a whole different wordl as I only knew the music but now it all makes sense.
Growing up before the internet, all you had to go on sometimes was word of mouth. This is kind of a throwback in that way, collecting statements from those who were there at the time.This important historical work fills in a lot of the gaps in the tragic/heroic story of HR's life.I especially enjoyed reading more about the various HR solo projects which get less attention than Bad Brains but are equally important.A must read for any fan - great photos as well.
