About the Author
Dame Darcy, born in Idaho in 1971, is an illustrator, painter, animator, actress, musician, and reality show star. Her comic book Meat Cake has been published by Fantagraphics Books since 1993. She also contributed to The Illustrated Jane Eyre with Penguin in 2006, Comic Book Tattoo with Image in 2008, Gasoline with Merrell Publishers in 2008, and Handbook For Hot Witches with Holt in 2012. She won a scholarship to the San Francisco Art Institute in 1989, where she studied animation and majored in film. She also has her own fashion label in Japan. She lives in Savannah, Georgia.

I discovered Meat Cake comics when I was 15 and fell instantly for the idiosyncratic, vibrant characters, the beautifully intricate ink-drawings and the stories, dreams and adventures each issue presented. The aesthetic Dame Darcy creates and displays is alluring and compelling; I always wanted more Richard Dirt and Wax Wolf. I couldn't wait to read the block under Strega Pez's chin and wondered if Friend the Gil would be back soon. I ate up all of the ghostly tales, the divisive friendships, the brazen insults, the star-crossed lovers and wicked fables that each issue brought. Now, I have them all with me, safe in this gorgeous book that I can stare at for hours!
